Following the success of Dragon Ball: The Breakers, Bandai Namco is bringing an exciting new addition to the franchise: introducing Goku, Majin Buu, Vegeta, and other iconic characters into the competitive world of MOBAs.

Developed by Ganbarion, the studio behind games like Dragon Ball Fusions, the new Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra marks the series’ debut in the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena genre. The game features 4v4 battles where players must combine fast-paced actions, team strategies, and the unique abilities of classic Dragon Ball characters.

The game is available on Windows (via Steam), PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices (iOS and Android), supporting cross-play and cross-progression from launch. This ensures players can enjoy the game across platforms while keeping their progress intact.

What is a MOBA?

Before diving deeper into Gekishin Squadra, it’s important to understand the MOBA concept. MOBA stands for “Multiplayer Online Battle Arena,” a competitive genre in which two teams of players control unique characters on a set map. Teams usually aim to destroy the opponent’s base while navigating strategic objectives.

Players control a single character per match and evolve during gameplay, gaining experience, collecting resources, and unlocking new abilities by defeating opponents and achieving map objectives. MOBAs emphasize both individual skill and coordinated team strategy, requiring players to make quick decisions under pressure.

Popular examples of MOBAs include League of Legends, Dota 2, and Pokémon Unite, all sharing gameplay similarities with Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra.

Gameplay in Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra

In Gekishin Squadra, teams consist of four players, each controlling a hero who evolves throughout the match. Players unlock new abilities and special attacks while facing opponents and AI-controlled bosses that appear on the map.

Each character belongs to a strategic class, with three main roles:

  • Damage (DPS): Focused on dealing high damage to enemies.
  • Tank: Protects allies while absorbing the maximum amount of damage.
  • Support: Provides assistance to teammates, controlling areas, and enhancing the team’s overall performance.

This structure encourages players to coordinate strategies, adapt to the team composition, and utilize each hero’s strengths to secure victory.

Additionally, the game offers extensive customization, including skins, entrance animations, and finishing moves. These visual enhancements stay true to the Dragon Ball universe, allowing fans to feel immersed in the anime’s iconic style while playing competitively.

Release, Beta Testing, and Expectations

Initially announced as Dragon Ball Project: Multi, the game underwent beta testing from June 12 to June 16, 2025, across multiple platforms. The official release date was set for September 9, 2025, and the game is now available to players on a variety of devices.

Ahead of launch, a pre-registration and pre-order campaign offered exclusive rewards for global milestone achievements. Players could unlock special characters, such as Mini Goku from the new Dragon Ball Daima series, along with other cosmetic items. These types of incentives are commonly used in MOBA-style games to boost early engagement and create excitement around the release.

Why Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra Matters

This game represents a bold step for the Dragon Ball franchise, combining the beloved characters and lore of the anime with the strategic depth and competitive nature of MOBAs. Fans now have the opportunity to experience epic 4v4 battles, leveraging each character’s unique abilities while forming tactical teams.

With cross-platform support, dynamic gameplay, and deep customization, Gekishin Squadra aims to attract both longtime Dragon Ball enthusiasts and competitive MOBA players. The game’s release highlights Bandai Namco’s commitment to expanding the franchise into new genres and offering innovative experiences for its global fanbase.

Whether you are a fan of Dragon Ball or a competitive gamer seeking a fresh MOBA challenge, Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra promises engaging, fast-paced battles filled with strategy, teamwork, and the unforgettable energy of the Dragon Ball universe.
